About KORA

Kwantlen Open Resource Access (KORA) is a freely-available digital collection of scholarly and creative works produced by members of the Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) community.

Scope and Purpose

KORA collects and preserves a wide range of digital works created by, or on behalf of, the University, its faculty, staff, students, and affiliated partners. This institutional repository includes journal articles, conference presentations, reports, videos, and much more.

By sharing this content freely through the Internet, the university supports open scholarly communication and collaborative research both within our local community, and globally. KORA preserves this content and makes it easy to discover, and thereby provides lasting visibility and recognition for scholarship at KPU.

Infrastructure

KORA is part of Arca: a collaborative initiative to support the development and implementation of digital repositories at BC post-secondary institutions. Foundational to the creation of the proposed Provincial Digital Library, Arca is a province-wide network of institutional repositories that:

  • provides access to faculty and student research output across multiple post-secondary institutions via a cross-repository search layer
  • supports the management of institutional digital assets
  • showcases BC as a hub for knowledge creation across Canada and around the world.

Arca is built on Islandora, a Canadian-developed open-source platform currently in use at over 100 public and private institutions worldwide. This shared platform provides post-secondary institutions with open-access repositories for research, theses, and any other digital assets they wish to make available to the wider community.

Guidelines

KORA is managed by the KPU Library in accordance with established guidelines, and with advice from the KPU Senate Standing Committee on the Library, and assistance from the Office of Research and Scholarship. These guidelines and procedures are subject to change.
